A morning fire outbreak has gutted a section of the Gidan Rumfa palace where the reinstatement Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II is staying.
Munir Sanusi Bayero, who is the Chief of Staff (CoS) to Emir Sanusi, confirmed the incident on Saturday.
Beyero, who holds the traditional title of Danburam Kano, disclosed in an official letter that the inferno occurred at the outer court of the palace.
According to him, there were no casualties in the fire disaster and the properties damaged were not much.
Bayero said the palace was investigating the cause of the blaze, while taking necessary measures to ensure safety and security of the palace’s occupants.
“It is hereby notified that on Saturday 13th July, 2024 morning, a fire incident occurred at the outer court of His Highness’ Palace, Kofar Kudu.
“Fortunately, there were no casualties and the damage was minimal.
“The palace is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of the palace and its occupants.
“We are also investigating the cause of the fire and taking steps to prevent such incidents from happening in the future,” the chief of staff to Sanusi the second said.
An unconfirmed source within the palace said the dawn fire affected the site where the Sanusi traditionally holds court sessions on Mondays.
Spokesman for the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, said the command was not contacted during the emergency.
