By Muh'd Shafi'u Saleh

On Monday, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri swore in 21 newly elected local government chairmen in Adamawa, charging them to focus on good governance and discharge their duties responsibly.

This followed the election conducted on Saturday, July 13, where the People's Democratic Party (PDP) won all 21 chairmanship seats and 225 councilorship seats, while the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) secured one councilorship seat in Demsa LG.

The oaths of office and allegiance were administered to the chairmen by the State Chief Judge, Justice Hapsat Abdurrahman.

In his speech at the Mahmud Ribadu Square in Yola, the venue of the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Fintiri challenged the chairmen to eschew corruption and embrace inclusivity in their administration.

He urged the new council chairmen to avoid absenteeism, emphasizing that the present administration will not tolerate such behavior where a chairman abandons their official duties without reason.

Governor Fintiri commended the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) for conducting an election widely acknowledged as one of the most credible in the history of Adamawa.

He congratulated the chairmen and the PDP for their victory at the polls and urged the people to remain loyal and supportive of his administration for the betterment of the state's citizens.

In his goodwill message, Barrister A.T. Shehu, the State PDP Chairman, reminded the sworn-in chairmen that they were elected based on the integrity of Governor Fintiri, urging them to emulate him and deliver good governance.

In a vote of thanks on behalf of his colleagues, Suleiman Ahmed, Executive Chairman of Toungo Local Government Area Council, expressed gratitude for the mandate given to them. He affirmed their commitment to diligently discharge their duties and align with the development agenda of the current administration for the best interests of the people of Adamawa.

Ahmed assured that they would demonstrate the visible dividends of democracy in their respective local governments and pledged not to disappoint the electorate who placed their trust in them.
