Governor Namadi has approved the reconstitution of a 10-member Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State, Bala Ibrahim.
He explained that the council is to advise the governor on the exercise of the Prerogative of Mercy as conferred on him by section 212 of the Nigerian Constitution.
The SSG listed the reconstituted council members as follows:
Dr. Aisha Haruna – Chairperson
Dr. Fatima Ibrahim Muhammad – Member
Professor Nasiru Adamu Aliyu – Member
Shehu Garba Sakwaya – Member
Abdulkadir Musa Guza – Member
Barrister Bello Abdulkadir Fanini (Hon. Attorney General) – Member
Controller Correctional Service – Member
Mairo Datti Birnin Kudu (Senior Legal Officer) – Member
Khalid Muhammad Hirin (Director Social Welfare) – Member
Salisu Ya’u Taura (Director Special Services) – Council Secretary
He stated that the reconstitution of the council by His Excellency, Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi, is pursuant to the powers conferred on him by section 192 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and section 3 (1) of the Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy Law, Cap. A2, Laws of Jigawa State, 2012.
Malam Bala Ibrahim said the reappointment of the council members is based on the remarkable achievements recorded during their last tenure, with 546 amnesties granted in the last three years.
While congratulating the appointees, the SSG said, "It is hoped that they will double their efforts to justify the confidence reposed in them and put in their best towards the development of the state."
The SSG noted that the reappointment takes immediate effect.
