A Kaduna-based women interfaith council on the aegis of Interfaith Forum of Muslims and Christian Women Association has trained at least 42 Muslim and Christian women on various skills with a focus on enhancing their livelihood.

Speaking at graduation ceremony of the trainees held at St Anthony’s Parish, Catholic Church, Dakace in Zaria local government area of Kaduna state, the Executive Director of the group, Rev Sister Veronica Onyeanisi Ola said the training was aimed at empowering the participants to stand on their own in order to manage their families effectively, by supporting their husbands.

She said the training was part of the efforts of the organization to serve humanity and contribute to the fight against poverty and economic hardship amongst residents of the area.

The beneficiaries were trained on fashion designing, upholstery, pastry and banking. Today, they are graduating after learning the various trades; all glory to God Almighty for the success of this training,” she added.

According to the Rev Sister, with the current economic situation in the country, managing homes, husbands and needed the support of women.

The executive director stated that her council was improving the livelihood of women and girls for sustainable peace and coexistence through building relationships between Christians and Muslims.

She further pointed out that the training had cemented the existence relationship among the trainees and called on the trainees to integrate their training received with others in the interest of service to humanity.

She also thanked the Catholic Dioceses, Mission UK,  Bistum Mainz Germany and Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles for their support to the programme. 

In his remarks, the Director Catholic Inter-Religious Dialogue, the Very Rev Henry Atumah, charged the trainees to make judicious use of the starter packs provided for them by the council in order to achieve the target objective and to always meet their prospective customers’ demand.
