Daily Struggle reported that, the African Action Congress (AAC) and the Young Progressives Party (YPP) have each won a councillorship seat in Saturday's local government elections in Bauchi State.
In Darazo Local Government Area, Yunusa Muhammed of the AAC emerged victorious in the race for the Papa Ward councillorship. Muhammed defeated his closest rival, Ashiru Muhammad of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP), by securing 1,156 votes. Ashiru Muhammad of the PDP garnered 1,053 votes, while Idris Muhammad of the All Progressives Congress (APC) received 290 votes.
Meanwhile, in Dass Local Government Area, Samira Shuaibu Maikano of the YPP won the councillorship position for Wandi Ward. She outpaced candidates from both the PDP and APC, securing 1,610 votes. The PDP candidate received 1,352 votes, while the APC candidate garnered 230 votes.
The state chapter of the AAC celebrated the victory, praising the dedication of its members and supporters. “I am pleased to inform you that our party, the African Action Congress (AAC), has emerged victorious in the councillorship election in Darazo Local Government Area during the recently concluded Bauchi State Local Government Election,” said Amb. Umar Y. Abubakar, the AAC State Chairman, in a statement obtained by SaharaReporters on Saturday. “This victory is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our party members and supporters in the region.”
Voting in most polling centers in Bauchi, Dass, and Tafawa Balewa LGAs commenced around 11:00 a.m. due to the late arrival of election officials and materials. Voters were seen queuing orderly and peacefully as the exercise proceeded smoothly at the majority of the centers visited.
