In a bid to ease transportation challenges, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has inaugurated a new batch of intra- and inter-city mass transit systems, deploying 31 buses for students and residents across the state.
The inauguration took place on Thursday at Mahmud Ribadu Square in Yola, where Governor Fintiri presented the keys of the 75-seater vehicles to school authorities, Adamawa Sunshine, and other stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Governor Fintiri emphasized that the buses are intended to alleviate the transportation difficulties faced by students and other residents in the state. He noted that this initiative follows the earlier deployment of 10 luxury buses aimed at mitigating transportation challenges in Adamawa.
“I want to reassure you that this administration is fully aware of the hard times and economic difficulties that many of our citizens are facing," Governor Fintiri stated. "The situation in the country is undoubtedly tough for everyone, and it is incumbent upon us to innovate and implement measures that will ease this hardship and build resilience as we navigate these challenging times."
With the issue of the new minimum wage now settled, Governor Fintiri announced that the state government plans to recruit additional personnel into the civil service.
In a related development, Governor Fintiri has launched the disbursement of a ₦50,000 grant to 10,000 women across the state's 21 Local Government Areas under the Fintiri Business Wallet program.
This initiative, which is the second batch of the empowerment program, aims to promote the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) among women in Adamawa State.
Over the past five years, the Fintiri administration has trained over 45,000 youths in various trades and provided them with starter packs. Additionally, more than 30,000 beneficiaries have been placed on a monthly stipend of ₦10,000.
“The Fintiri Business Wallet is a point where several key elements of our 8-Point Agenda converge—youth and women development, poverty alleviation, and commerce,” the governor explained.
He urged each of the 10,000 female beneficiaries to use the grant to either support or start their own businesses.
