The Directorate of Community and Rural Development's Advocacy and Mobilization Division recently conducted a campaign on flood awareness and related issues in the Kwakwa Community of Egwa, Gwada, within Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State.
Under the leadership of Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, Managing Director of the Department of Awareness and Support for Rural Development, the campaign aims to raise awareness among the Gwada, Egwa, and Kwakwa communities about the development projects currently being implemented by the agency.
In addition to its activities in Shiroro, the agency also extended its awareness campaign to Katcha Local Government Area. Key projects include providing vehicles to enhance security operations, small boats for transportation in waterside areas, and solar devices to improve access to clean water and electricity.
Dr. Mahmud Umar Muhammad, Director of Community and Rural Development, emphasized that while the boats will be available to the communities, they will not be free. The agency plans to offer these boats at an affordable price to ensure they provide services for local youth and include protective equipment to prevent boat accidents. Dr. Muhammad also highlighted the importance of electricity in preventing criminal activities, noting that improved lighting reduces opportunities for illegal activities that thrive in darkness.
Regarding potable water, Dr. Muhammad acknowledged that while the government is primarily responsible for providing clean drinking water, the agency is committed to addressing this issue under federal supervision. He urged local leaders to monitor the use of the new solar devices and ensure they are maintained properly.
Alhaji Umar Musa, Niger State Coordinator, assured that the state government will address other complaints and seek further contributions from N-HYPPADEC to ensure the successful implementation of resolutions. He noted that the agency has provided vehicles and equipment to security forces for better management of community security, and further support may be considered in the future to facilitate the maintenance and monitoring of critical projects.
The agency is expected to complete its ongoing projects by encouraging contractors and ensuring necessary resources are in place. This effort aims to enhance the development of the areas that have long contributed to the country's wealth and well-being.
