The Niger State Government is set to commission the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Area Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) water intervention program at New Bussa's water works, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, on July 31, 2024.

The N-HYPPADEC intervention at New Bussa includes rehabilitating intake and high-lift pump stations, supplying and installing two low-lift submersible pump sets, and rehabilitating the intake platform. The intervention also covers site clearance and the removal of old pumps at the intake, the construction of concrete bases for new high-lift pumps, and the installation of valves at the high-lift intake and filter units.

N-HYPPADEC's interventions include supplying one Toyota Hilux project vehicle and five Bajaj motorcycles, rehabilitating water treatment facilities, and equipping a water quality laboratory. The program also involves installing filters and filter nozzles, replacing valves, and cleaning the treatment plant's 1,000m³ water tank.

The project further includes maintaining, desilting, cleaning, refelting, and disinfecting the waterworks facilities. N-HYPPADEC has also installed backwash pumps and air blowers, replaced six chemical dosing pumps for aluminium sulfate, chlorine, and soda ash, and maintained and serviced a broken-down clarifier, mechanical flash mixer control panel, and a newly established booster station. They have constructed a galvanized iron Brathwaite tank, electrified the booster station, and installed galvanized steel plates, along with extending the distribution network in fifteen different locations within New Bussa, covering a distance of seven kilometres with DN 150mm UPVC water distribution pipes.

Furthermore, the state government will commission the renovated duty staff quarters at the waterworks, complete with fencing for the entire treatment plant and a new booster service station. This comprehensive intervention by N-HYPPADEC is expected to boost and enhance the ten-million-litre water distribution reservoir supply to the metropolis and surrounding areas. The intervention has also included the supply and stockpiling of water treatment chemicals, comprising approximately 270 metric tons of aluminium sulfate, 164 drums of calcium hypochlorite, and 20 metric tons of soda ash, all of which have already been delivered.
