The Senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Shehu Umar Buba, has accused Governor Bala Mohammed of ‘short-changing’ the people of Bauchi State, describing him as corrupt and responsible for impoverishing the residents.
Senator Buba made these allegations in Bauchi during an interview with journalists at the All Progressives Congress (APC) office, where party flags were handed over to the 20 candidates for the August 17th local government elections in the state.
“Nothing will stop us from winning this election because of the maladministration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State. People are being impoverished by PDP policies in Bauchi. The corruption within the Bauchi PDP government is very evident and known to everybody,” Buba stated.
According to the Senator, under the PDP government, corruption has adversely affected many people. “With this, we are very optimistic about winning this election. As we head toward the 2027 general elections, we are ready. We are out and prepared for this election by God's grace.”
Buba further argued that the hardship in Bauchi is caused by the PDP-led administration, not by the policies of the All Progressives Congress (APC). “If anyone claims it’s the APC’s policies that are causing hardship, that is very misleading and fictitious. The Federal Government under the leadership of Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu is doing everything possible. I can tell you for free that the Bauchi State government is not even acknowledging or appreciating all the interventions provided by the federal government.”
He cited recent examples to support his claims, saying, “For instance, 20 trucks of rice were given to Bauchi State to distribute to the populace. Where is the rice? Three months ago, about 70 trucks of guinea corn were given by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture for distribution. Recently, 70 trucks of fertilizer were also given to the Bauchi State government to distribute freely, but they ended up selling it at the rate of N50,000.”
“This hardship in Bauchi is caused by the Bala Mohammed-led government. It is a one-man government. I’m repeating it—it’s a very corrupt government. Look at all the ministries; nothing is happening,” he added.
Senator Buba urged the people of Bauchi State to come out in large numbers on August 17th to vote for the APC, expressing confidence that his party will win the election.
Earlier, the State APC Acting Chairman, Hon. Mohammed Hassan Tilde, stated that the APC is fully aware of the PDP's plans to orchestrate electoral fraud, as it has allegedly done in previous elections dating back to 2019. “We in the APC are ever ready to checkmate the ruling party in the state,” Tilde said.
He urged APC members, particularly those assigned to electoral duties at constituencies and polling units, to safeguard the party’s hard-earned votes.
Tilde also noted that the APC has fielded candidates for all 20 chairmanship positions and 323 councillorship seats in the upcoming local government elections, expressing confidence that the party will win all the seats.
