Veteran journalist Aliyu Hamagan was attacked and seriously injured by hoodlums at his residence in Minna, the Niger State capital.
The incident occurred at 2 a.m. last week when he was assaulted with knives and cutlasses, leaving him with severe wounds on his head and back.
The criminals also stole Hamagan's laptop, iPad, iPhone, a small phone, and other valuables.
Hamagan was rushed to the Minna General Hospital, where he received medical care and was later discharged.
In an interview with newsmen in Minna, Hamagan expressed surprise at the attack, saying his assailants shone a flashlight directly into his eyes during the operation and ordered him to remain silent.
“Despite the injuries they inflicted on me, I still thank God for sparing my life. They also threatened that my entire house was surrounded by their colleagues and if I did anything funny, they would kill me,” he told colleagues.
When contacted for more details about the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Wasiu Abiodun, declined to comment, stating that he was not aware of any attack on a journalist in the state.
