The Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has charged the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Mallam Ahmed Baba Idris, to be a good ambassador of the Nupe Nation in Kebbi State.
He also admonished him to protect the interests of the Nupes residing in Kebbi State, promoting unity and togetherness to maintain peace and security in the state.
The traditional ruler gave this charge during the official launch of the Ahmed Idris Foundation, which took place at his Wadata Palace in Bida to commemorate his twenty-one years on the throne and his 72nd birthday on Thursday.
He noted that the appointment of Mallam Ahmed Baba Idris as Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, despite being from another state, by Governor Comrade Nasir Idris is a clear indication of his honesty and sincerity in the discharge of his professional duties as a journalist.
According to the monarch, "For the governor to single you out of many indigenous journalists in Kebbi State and appoint you as his press secretary is an indication of the confidence he has in you. So my passionate request from you is to continue being a good ambassador of the Nupe Kingdom in Kebbi State so that the entire Nupe Nation will always be proud of you."
The traditional ruler lauded the governor and the people of Kebbi State, as well as the Gwandu Emirate Council, for the confidence they have reposed in their son from Nupe land and Bida Emirate. He assured that his appointment as Press Secretary in Kebbi State, despite being outside his own state, is a reflection of the brotherly relationship that has existed between the Gwandu and Bida Emirates.
He expressed his gratitude to the governor for placing his trust in Mallam Ahmed Baba Idris, appointing him to serve in his government as a non-indigene of Kebbi State.
Speaking earlier, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Mallam Ahmed Baba Idris, described his appointment as the will of Allah (SWT) and the result of the mutual understanding he had established with the governor when he was a labor leader in Kebbi State.
Ahmed Baba recalled how he sent a powerful delegation to extend his appreciation to the governor on behalf of the Etsu Nupe, saying, "They came to express your utmost gratitude to him."
"Since I came to Kebbi State as a state correspondent for a national newspaper, I have established a good working relationship with the governor, starting from his time as a labor leader. We have been working together, and I have always carried out my duty of reporting labor activities professionally and without bias. This has brought us together over time."
He added, "Your Royal Highness, my appointment as Chief Press Secretary would not be complete without thanking you for the royal blessings I received from you at your palace, which inspired me to bring my appointment letter to you for further blessings. Let me assure you, Your Royal Highness, that I will not disappoint you, the Nupe Kingdom, or the Bida Emirate Council. I would also like to inform you that the Nupe community in Kebbi State is living peacefully with their host community."
He continued, "It may interest you to know that I have facilitated the employment of seven Nupe indigenes in federal establishments and other agencies due to my relationships in the state."
Speaking about the Ahmed Idris Foundation, the Chief Press Secretary disclosed that the foundation aims to improve the well-being of the less privileged, vulnerable individuals, and widows in the Bida Emirate, helping them cope with the hardships in the country.
He pledged his continued support to empower the needy in the Emirate through his foundation.
A total of 155 widows, less privileged individuals, and vulnerable people were empowered with cash and five kilograms of rice and other grains.
