The Bauchi State Vigilante and Youths Empowerment Agency was established on August 15, 2023, and began full-scale operations in February 2024. This initiative stems from Governor Bala Mohammad's commitment to youth empowerment and the security of lives and property in the state.
Governor Bala Mohammad has played a crucial role in reshaping the mindset of young Nigerians, focusing on development, growth, and prosperity. Since its creation, the agency has achieved significant milestones in peace-building and youth empowerment programs.
Dr. (Amb.) Umar Aliyu Shayi, the agency’s Director-General, has been instrumental in these successes. His leadership is marked by effectiveness and professionalism, reflecting his dedication to the agency’s goals. Dr. Shayi is known for his tireless efforts in consolidating the agency’s impact, driven by his passion for security and empowerment.
The agency’s core objectives include job creation, recreation, and the security of lives and property, aimed at enhancing sustainability and productivity in Bauchi State. Dr. Shayi's leadership stands out for his commitment to creating a crime-free society. His extensive experience includes roles as Senior Special Assistant to Governor Bala Mohammad on Security Matters, ACG Operations Nigeria Hunters and Forestry Security Service, and Commandant of the Special Constabulary Police of Bauchi State Command.
Dr. Shayi’s qualifications include a professional diploma in crime management and control, with additional training in global security systems from international courses, such as those in Israel. The agency collaborates with conventional security forces in Bauchi State on intelligence gathering, critical information management, and modern crime control techniques.
Dr. Shayi has received numerous awards for his contributions to public safety and security, highlighting his role in advancing the agency’s mission and his impact on crime prevention in Bauchi State.
