Professor Yahuza Suleiman Imam, Registrar of the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS), has expressed sympathy for the victims of the devastating flood that hit Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, following the collapse and overflow of the Alau Dam.

Prof. Imam noted that many families have been rendered homeless as the flood caused widespread destruction in the state capital. He urged the government to implement measures to prevent such disasters in the future.

The Registrar also called for an immediate response to the crisis with a new strategic plan and emphasized the need to prioritize the welfare of flood victims in Maiduguri, Bauchi, Kaduna, and other affected states.

He suggested that one effective approach to preventing future floods in Maiduguri and across the country is investing in disaster-resistant infrastructure, including flood barriers, reinforced buildings, and adequate drainage systems. According to Prof. Imam, these measures would significantly help in saving lives and avoiding future catastrophes.

Prof. Imam also encouraged relevant agencies to enhance their disaster management efforts by focusing on community education and preparedness.
