The Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission (KESIEC) yesterday declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of Saturday’s local council polls in the state.

The Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Aliyu Muhammad-Mera, announced the results in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday. He stated that the APC won all 21 chairmanship seats as well as all 225 ward councillorship positions.

Muhammad-Mera noted that 17 political parties participated in the polls, including APC, NNPP, LP, AAC, Boot Party, AP, and SDP, among others.

He confirmed that the Commission had ratified and adopted the chairmanship results for the LGAs as announced by the various councils’ returning officers, along with the councillorship results as declared at the electoral wards.

Muhammad-Mera expressed satisfaction that the exercise was peaceful and hitch-free. He also commended the security agencies and all other stakeholders for their invaluable support.

The PDP had boycotted the elections, alleging that the KESIEC Chairman and his commissioners were card-carrying members of the APC, and therefore, would not be fair to opposition parties.
