The Marafa Mentorship Forum (MMF) launched a project on Monday to feed 10,000 vulnerable individuals in Zamfara State, in celebration of the 64th birthday of Senator Kabiru Marafa.
During the launch event at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Gusau, the Forum’s Chairman, Dr. Mika’il Barau, said the initiative was organized by forum members who had benefited from Senator Marafa’s scholarship schemes.
“This forum consists of over 1,000 members across the state, all of whom have benefited from Senator Marafa's scholarship programs,” Dr. Barau explained.
“In previous years, we celebrated Senator Marafa’s birthday with dinners and publications, but given the current hardships faced by many Nigerians, we decided this year to focus on helping those in need.”
Dr. Barau announced that the forum would provide daily meals to 10,000 vulnerable individuals. The food distribution began at FMC Gusau and will continue at prison yards, as well as Yariman Bakura and Farida hospitals.
In addition to the food program, Dr. Barau mentioned that the forum will assist underprivileged students from low-income families through the National Education Fund, commonly known as the Students’ Loan program.
“Today at 4 p.m., we will launch the Students’ Loan office in Gusau, with another office set to open in Talata Mafara town,” he added.
The forum also organized a visual presentation on security and banditry activities in Zamfara, delivered by Dr. Murtala Rufai from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
Dr. Murtala Saminu, Head of the Nursing Department at the FMC, commended the forum for choosing the centre as the starting point for the food distribution. “This is a timely and welcome development, given the hardships faced by vulnerable groups,” he said.
Dr. Saminu urged other groups, associations, and well-meaning individuals in the state to emulate the initiative of the Marafa Mentorship Forum.
