Ahmed Lawan, Special Assistant to the Governor of Adamawa State on Peace and Security Affairs, has denied reports of a new clash between the Waja and Lunguda tribes in Lamurde Local Government Area. In a press release issued on Monday, September 16, 2024, Lawan assured the public that the news was false and urged people to continue their daily activities as usual.
"The attention of my office was drawn to a misleading security alert circulating on social media, suggesting a violent tribal or communal clash in Lamurde LGA. I wish to categorically state that the incident in question was not a clash between the Waja and Lunguda communities but rather an isolated case of witchcraft accusations, which resulted in the unfortunate killing of six people," Lawan clarified.
He further stated that the police, under the leadership of Commissioner Morris Dankwambo, had made arrests, and investigations are ongoing. Those found guilty will be prosecuted.
Lawan also praised the efforts of security agencies for their swift action and urged the media to verify facts before publication, in line with journalistic ethics. He reassured the public of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri's commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens in Adamawa State.
