The Chairman of Chanchaga Local Government Council in Niger State, Hon. Aminu Yakubu Ladan, has revealed that the council is committed to improving the livelihood of the people in the local government, particularly the less privileged.
The council chairman made this disclosure on Sunday during the closing ceremony of the cash support distribution program for women petty traders, initiated by the council, which took place in Kpakungu community in Minna South, within the local government area.
He stated that the council had resolved to embark only on programs that have a direct impact on the people, such as the cash support program. He added that the council has many plans in store to improve the lives of the local government's residents.
Hon. Ladan said the council aims to empower about 5,000 women and youths in the local government, adding that the initiative complements the efforts of the state Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umar Bago, to improve the welfare and well-being of the people in the state.
He further disclosed that they chose to visit each of the 11 wards in the local government to present the cash support directly to the beneficiaries, as it was the same approach they used when seeking their mandate.
He mentioned that the tour gave him the opportunity to interact with the people and that the initiative was a way to give back to those who entrusted them with the mandate that placed them in office.
The council chairman also revealed that the second phase of the cash support program will commence soon, urging those who did not benefit from the first phase to be patient. He advised those who did benefit to utilize the funds to expand their businesses.
The House Leader of the Chanchaga Legislative Council, Hon. Yahuza Sa'idu Etsu, who spoke on behalf of all the councillors, appreciated the council chairman for the gesture and assured him of their continued support.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the councillor representing Minna South Ward, who is also the Majority Leader of the Chanchaga Legislative Council, Hon. Ibrahim Isah Gomna, pledged their support for any program that would improve the welfare of the people. He also advised the beneficiaries to use the funds wisely to boost their businesses.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the council chairman for the initiative and assured him that they would use the funds to expand their businesses.
