As the world prepares to commemorate the 2024 International Day of Rural Women, the Bauchi State Ministry of Agriculture has reaffirmed its commitment to harnessing the potential of rural women to achieve self-reliance.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Professor Simon Madugu Yalams, made this pledge while receiving the UN Women Country Representative during a familiarization visit focused on preparations for the International Day of Rural Women.

Professor Yalams extended the state government's appreciation to UN Women for its contributions to the development of rural women in Bauchi State. He emphasized the current administration's dedication and political will to implement rural development programs and policies aimed at empowering rural women.

He further explained that since the inception of Governor Bala Mohammed's administration, several programs with direct impacts on rural women have been implemented, and the state is already experiencing significant results.

In her remarks, the UN Women Country Representative, Mrs. Beatrice Seyoung, highlighted the theme for the 2024 International Day of Rural Women: The Role of Rural Women in Community Development. She noted that UN Women advocates for affirmative procurement policies for women entrepreneurs, gender-responsive budgeting, and equal opportunities for women in Bauchi State.

Mrs. Seyoung also outlined several programs implemented by UN Women in the past two years, including a cash transfer initiative in collaboration with the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) and other partners, which she said has positively impacted the lives of rural women across the state.

She assured rural women in Bauchi State of continued support from the UN in their quest for greater opportunities and self-reliance.
