Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic loss of lives following the petrol tanker accident in Majiya town, Taura Local Government Area.
Governor Namadi, who quickly visited the accident site and participated in the funeral prayers for the deceased, described the incident as the most devastating tragedy to ever strike Jigawa State.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims during this painful time. We stand in solidarity with those who have lost loved ones and those injured in this tragic incident," the governor said.
He assured that the state government will cover the medical expenses of all those injured in the fire, who are currently receiving treatment in hospitals across the state and beyond.
"The government will ensure that the affected families receive the necessary support as we work to prevent such tragedies in the future."
According to the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), 107 people have died in the accident, while 57 others have been hospitalized with varying degrees of burns.
Governor Namadi also urged the public to prioritize safety during emergencies and to avoid gathering at accident scenes, in order to prevent further tragedies.
