Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing essential resources for the growth and development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state.
He made this pledge while receiving the 2024 Most SME Governor Award at the National MSME Conference, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Governor Bala described MSMEs as the backbone of the economy.
Represented by his deputy, Mr. Auwal Jatau, the Governor expressed gratitude to SMEDAN (Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria) for the recognition, stating, “This award is not just a testament to my administration's dedication to SME development, but a reflection of the collective efforts of all stakeholders working towards the growth of MSMEs.”
Governor Bala highlighted the initiatives his administration has introduced to support entrepreneurs. These include accessible funding programs, streamlined processes for business registration, and capacity-building workshops aimed at ensuring MSMEs reach their full potential.
He emphasized the importance of infrastructure development in the state, saying, “We have prioritized infrastructure development, ensuring that our roads, markets, and facilities meet the needs of the business community. By investing in infrastructure, we are enhancing accessibility and fostering a climate of trust and reliability, both of which are crucial for businesses to thrive.”
In his acceptance speech, the Governor said, “I am honored to receive this prestigious award on behalf of the government and the good people of Bauchi State. MSMEs are the backbone of our economy. They drive innovation, create jobs, and foster inclusive growth. In Bauchi State, we understand that empowering our MSMEs is not just a policy goal but a moral imperative. Over the past few years, we have focused on creating an enabling environment for these enterprises to thrive.”
Governor Bala also highlighted the importance of partnerships with local and international organizations, which have strengthened the state's efforts in MSME development. He called for continued collaboration to build a thriving ecosystem that would not only uplift Bauchi State but also contribute to national economic development.
The Governor reiterated his administration's unwavering commitment to investing in MSMEs, announcing plans to establish a more robust support system aimed at fostering growth and innovation, while addressing the challenges faced by entrepreneurs.
In his remarks, SMEDAN Director General, Mr. Charles Odili, noted that the award acknowledges the positive impact of Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration on the development and growth of MSMEs in Bauchi State.
