The Federal Government has concluded plans to hand over the 87-kilometre Koko-Mahuta-Dabai-Zuru road to the Kebbi State Government for reconstruction. The project, originally awarded on December 15, 2020, to Great Northern International Company Limited for N19.7 billion, faced delays due to funding challenges.
During a joint assessment of the project, Mr. Ishaya Vandi-Joseph, Federal Controller of Works in Kebbi, explained that the state government would now take over the road’s reconstruction, following due process through the Federal Ministry of Works.
Governor Nasir Idris, represented by the Speaker of the Kebbi House of Assembly, Alhaji Muhammad Usman-Zuru, expressed appreciation for the federal government's efforts, assuring that the state will prioritize the road’s completion.
The state’s Commissioner for Works, Alhaji Abdullahi Faruq-Muslim, emphasized the importance of the road, which serves seven local government areas. He assured that the project would be thoroughly assessed before the final handover.
The contractor, Mr. Li Lu Kuan, attributed delays to inflation and insecurity in the area.
