The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has expressed optimism that Nigeria's current security challenges will soon be resolved.

Speaking at the Depot Nigerian Army Centenary Celebration and the 87th Regular Recruits Intake Passing Out Parade held at the RSM Hama Kim Parade Ground in Zaria, General Musa commended the Nigerian Army for its significant achievements in addressing security threats. He emphasized their continued commitment to defending the nation and protecting its citizens.

Reflecting on his time as a former Commandant of the Depot, the CDS acknowledged the rigorous training and endurance instilled in the recruits. He noted the event marked a historic milestone, celebrating 100 years of the Depot's existence, and highlighted the resilience and dedication of the Army Headquarters, past and present Commandants, staff, and instructors.

“This occasion is a testament to your commitment to excellence, discipline, and service to our great nation. As Chief of Defence Staff, I am proud to see the Nigerian Army continue to thrive and grow,” he stated.

General Musa also underscored the Depot's vital role since its inception in 1924 in shaping young Nigerians into professional soldiers to meet the manpower needs of the Nigerian Army. He emphasized that the institution has consistently aligned its training with the Armed Forces' constitutional responsibilities, producing highly trained personnel capable of meeting the nation’s security demands.

Highlighting his leadership philosophy, he said, “My leadership concept is to nurture a professional Armed Forces of Nigeria that is people-centric, capable of meeting its constitutional responsibilities in a joint and collaborative environment.”

The CDS praised the realistic and result-oriented training at the Depot, which has contributed to the soldiers' robust fighting spirit in various operational theaters. Addressing the recruits, he expressed confidence in their preparation and capabilities, saying, “Having witnessed your excellent display of drill and received reports of your good performance in training, I am certain you have acquired the basic tenets required to be good soldiers.”

To the passing-out recruits of the 87th Regular Intake, General Musa congratulated them, calling their achievement a testament to their perseverance and dedication. He reminded them that the Oath of Allegiance they took was not mere words but the essence of the uniform they now wear.

“You are now entrusted with the sacred duty of defending our beloved country, Nigeria,” he said. He urged them to maintain high professional standards, retain the knowledge gained during training, and uphold the reputation of the Nigerian Army.

The CDS charged the recruits to avoid actions that could tarnish the Army's image, remain focused, and be resilient in countering criminal activities. He reminded them of their dual accountability to civil and military law and urged loyalty to constituted authorities, professionalism, and service with honor.

To the parents, families, and friends of the recruits, General Musa expressed gratitude for their unwavering support, which has helped the soldiers achieve their dreams and reach this milestone.

“This defining moment is as much a celebration of your support as it is of their achievements,” he concluded.
