The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Dr. Sa’ad Abubakar, has conferred the traditional title of "Gwarzon Daulan Usmaniyya" on Kebbi State Governor, His Excellency Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu.
Delivering the message to the governor at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi on Friday, the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammadu-Mera, said:
"I am here to convey the message of His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto.
"In Hausa language, whoever is identified as Gwarzo needs no further explanation. He is brave, trustworthy, smart, generous, and dependable."
Quoting the Sultan's letter, the Emir added:
"The title is in recognition of your significant achievements in infrastructure development across Kebbi State.
"We express our happiness and appreciation for your contributions to the development of Kebbi, your cordial relationship with traditional institutions, and your service to citizens, particularly in the North and Nigeria at large.
"Your efforts in improving education, healthcare, security, and socioeconomic activities are commendable.
"In light of these accomplishments, we are pleased to confer upon you the traditional title of Gwarzon Daulan Usmaniyya. We hope this recognition will inspire you to redouble your efforts in serving humanity."
In his response, Governor Idris expressed his gratitude to the Sultan for deeming him worthy of the honor. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting traditional institutions, acknowledging their role as custodians of tradition and culture.
"I am deeply honored and grateful," Governor Idris said. "As far as traditional titles are concerned, the Emirates in Kebbi have already done so much for me.
"His Royal Highness, the Emir of Gwandu, conferred upon me the title of Kauran Gwandu. The Kabi Emirate gave me Jigon Kabi, the Yauri Emirate honored me with Gamjin Yauri, and the Zuru Emirate bestowed the title Karfen Zuru.
"Now, to crown it all, His Eminence, the leader of all Muslims in Nigeria, a figure respected worldwide, has found me worthy of the prestigious title of Gwarzon Daulan Usmaniyya. I am deeply humbled and inspired."
The ceremony further solidified Governor Idris’s relationship with traditional institutions and underscored his contributions to the development of Kebbi State.
