The Public Convenience Maintenance Association (PCMA), FCT chapter, has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting toilet usage and environmental hygiene across the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In a press release marking World Toilet Day on Tuesday in Abuja, PCMA General Secretary Usman Umar urged stakeholders in both the public and private sectors to support efforts to eradicate open defecation and improve hygiene practices.

The group praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Minister of State Mariya Mahmud for their dedication to aligning with the Federal Government’s Executive Order 009, which aims to end open defecation nationwide by 2025. PCMA also pledged to collaborate with the FCT Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) to achieve this goal.

“World Toilet Day, recognized annually by the United Nations since 2013, highlights the importance of sanitation and hygiene,” the statement noted. PCMA reaffirmed its commitment to working with regulatory agencies like the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) to combat practices that pose risks to public health.

The association emphasized the need for sustained awareness and collaborative efforts to ensure environmental hygiene and the well-being of residents.
