Kaduna State Government has inaugurated the Second Round of the 2024 Maternal and Newborn Child Health Week with a call on pregnant women and mothers to avail themselves for the last round of the health care services.

The Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe inaugurated the programme at the Primary Healthcare Centre Badarawa, Kaduna North Local Government. 

She said this year's week underscores the commitment of  Kaduna State Government to securing and enhancing the health and well-being of its citizens.

According to her, the primary objective of the MNCH week is to significantly reduce maternal and child morbidity and mortality rates. 

"This initiative focuses on implementing high-impact interventions specifically designed for children under the age of five, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and women of reproductive age." She said.

Further explaining the significance of the week, Dr. Balarabe said the programme offers wide range of health services including immunization, nutritional services, and health education.

The Deputy Governor therefore called on parents especially women to visit health facilities across the state to receive the services to improve their health status and general wellbeing of their children.

Earlier in his address, the Executive Secretary, Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board, Prof.Bello Yusuf Jamo said the MNCH week represents a targeted and strategic approach to improving maternal and child health outcomes in the State. 

Prof. Jamo noted that through the program, Kaduna state government aims to enhance healthcare delivery and address critical health challenges facing mothers and children, ultimately contributing to healthier communities throughout the state.

He said the 2024 MNCH week was rolled out by the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board (SPHCB), in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency and support from various development partners.

The event was attended by the Commissioner of Health, Executive Secretary and Staff of the State Primary Health Board, Chairman of Kaduna North Local Government, representatives of Development Partners supporting health programs of the State, and other stakeholders.
