In a significant political shift, over 7,000 supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors were formally received on Monday at the Arewa Local Government Secretariat by the Kebbi State APC Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, on behalf of the state governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris. Kana-Zuru assured the new members of equal treatment and pledged the administration's readiness to include them in its programs and initiatives.

While addressing the gathering, the APC chairman emphasized the importance of unity within the party and reaffirmed the administration's commitment to streamlining the party’s structure to maintain political stability in the state. He also appealed to the people of Arewa Local Government to support the current government’s vision for delivering the dividends of democracy.

Highlighting the administration’s achievements, Kana-Zuru noted that the governor, fondly referred to as Kauran Gwandu, has successfully executed numerous developmental projects, including the construction of roads, schools, and healthcare centers across the state.

In his remarks, Hon. Nura Kangiwa, a member of the Kebbi State House of Assembly representing Arewa State Constituency, expressed the community’s support for the governor’s leadership. He announced the people’s unanimous endorsement of the governor for a second term in 2027.

“We have unanimously agreed that our votes in 2027 are for you. No one else deserves to occupy the Government House in 2027 but you, Insha Allah,” Kangiwa declared.

Alhaji Hassan Kangiwa, Chairman of the Governing Board of the College of Education, Argungu, also commended the governor for his dedication to improving the lives of the people through impactful projects.

During his speech, Governor Nasir Idris thanked the people of Arewa Local Government for their support. The governor, who was on a thank-you visit organized by the state party leadership, announced several new initiatives, including the rehabilitation of electricity in Kangiwa and the construction of roads linking Kangiwa to Chibike and Ire.

“Insha Allah, within two weeks, electricity will be restored, and work on the road projects will commence. My administration will treat all members, new and old, equally to ensure teamwork and the party’s success,” the governor stated.

Speaking on behalf of the new APC members, Ismail Dan Iko, a former PDP stalwart, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the current administration.

“I was a strong opposition leader in this local government, but I am impressed with the integrity, transparency, and vision of His Excellency, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris. He is truly a leader with a mission for the state,” Dan Iko remarked.

The defection further strengthens the APC’s position in Kebbi State as the ruling party continues to consolidate its political dominance.
