In a remarkable celebration of academic excellence and leadership, Dr. Adama Adamu, the Head of the Department of Mass Communication at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has been honoured by the university for her exceptional contributions and pioneering achievements. 

The recognition comes as a testament to her dedication and impact in the field of Mass Communication and her role as a transformative leader.

Dr. Adamu was celebrated for four significant accomplishments:

Grant Fellow of the Year Award: Dr. Adamu was the sole recipient of this prestigious award from the Faculty of Social Sciences, recognizing her outstanding research and academic contributions. This accolade highlights her commitment to advancing knowledge and securing grants to support innovative projects within the university.

Best Performing Head of Department in the Faculty of Social Sciences: Her exemplary leadership and administrative prowess earned her the title of the best-performing Head of Department in the Faculty of Social Sciences. This award underscores her ability to inspire both students and faculty while driving the department toward academic excellence.

Top Three Best Performing Female HODs at ABU: Dr. Adamu was also ranked among the top three best-performing female Heads of Department at Ahmadu Bello University. This recognition celebrates her as a trailblazer for women in academia, breaking barriers and setting high standards for leadership and performance.

Reelection as Head of the Mass Communication Department: In a resounding vote of confidence, Dr. Adamu was reelected as the Head of the Mass Communication Department. Her reelection reflects the trust and admiration she has earned from her colleagues and students, thanks to her commendable leadership and vision for the department.

Malama Habiba accepted the ABU Best Performing HOD (Faculty of Social Sciences) and Grant Fellow of the Year Awards on behalf of Dr. Adama Adamu, who participated virtually from Praslin, Seychelles, where she was attending another event.

The ceremony, held at the Yusufu Bala Usman Hall, was organised by the university’s Rewards and Recognition System Committee, led by its Chairman, Professor Sani Abdullahi.

During the event, Professor Abdullahi highlighted the rigorous selection process undertaken by the committee to ensure fairness and credibility. Out of a total of 13,000 staff members, fewer than 200 were nominated for the awards. He emphasized that the initiative aims to motivate employees and foster healthy competition, ultimately driving the university’s progress.

Professor Abdullahi also praised the university administration for establishing the Rewards and Recognition System in 2023, which institutionalizes the appreciation of staff contributions. He noted that recognizing employees’ efforts is a powerful morale booster, reinforcing their commitment to excellence.

In his closing remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Kabiru Bala, congratulated the awardees and encouraged them to continue excelling in their roles. He also urged other staff members to strive for excellence, assuring them that their hard work and dedication would not go unnoticed.

The ceremony underscored ABU Zaria’s commitment to celebrating and rewarding the dedication of its staff, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation within the institution.
