Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has pledged that his administration will not interfere in the operations of the newly established Bauchi State Road Traffic Agency (BAROTA), emphasizing the need for honesty and professionalism in the agency’s duties.

Speaking at the passing-out parade of the first batch of 500 BAROTA Cadets and Marshals at the Dr. Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu Square, Government House, Bauchi, Governor Mohammed highlighted that BAROTA was created to address pressing challenges in road traffic management, safety, and enforcement in the state.

He explained that BAROTA’s functions include enforcing traffic laws, preventing accidents, raising road safety awareness, and investigating traffic incidents. The agency’s operatives are empowered by law to arrest offenders, impound vehicles involved in violations, and ensure orderly road usage.

“Over the years, road accidents, traffic congestion, and general disorder on our roads have had devastating effects on our citizens. In response, my administration presented the Bauchi Road Traffic Agency Bill to the State House of Assembly in 2020. Following its passage, I assented to the bill, establishing BAROTA as a legal entity to safeguard the lives of road users in the state,” the governor stated.

He congratulated the 500 Cadets and Marshals who completed their rigorous training, describing the event as a significant milestone toward achieving a safer and more efficient road transportation system in Bauchi.

Governor Mohammed cautioned the newly inducted personnel to carry out their duties with integrity and professionalism, serving as peacekeepers, educators, and protectors of public safety. He also assured them that his administration would support the agency with modern tools and technology to enhance its operations.

“As a government, we are resolute in our vision to expand BAROTA by recruiting more youths to meet our target of 2,000 Cadets and Marshals. This initiative aligns with our commitment to human capital development through economic empowerment and youth engagement. I urge you to serve with compassion and dedication, as every life saved and accident prevented is a testament to your efforts,” he said.

Governor Mohammed directed all local government chairmen in the state to collaborate with BAROTA to establish local offices for better coordination and effective operation across Bauchi State.

Earlier, BAROTA Director General Ahmed Tijjani Baba Gamawa assured that the agency’s personnel would operate within the confines of the law, emphasizing that their training adheres to international standards and global best practices.

Governor Mohammed reaffirmed that BAROTA’s activities would be conducted with transparency and strict adherence to its mandate, vowing to discipline any acts of laxity or corruption among its personnel.
