The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) announced on Thursday that its Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma (AC OPFY) has killed scores of terrorists and dismantled their logistics base at Alawa Forest in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to a statement by the Director of NAF Public Relations, Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, the operation, conducted on January 21, 2025, marked a significant milestone in NAF's counter-terrorism efforts.
He stated: “This operation was based on credible intelligence and confirmatory aerial surveillance, which revealed an influx of armed terrorists into Alawa Forest. These criminals were linked to widespread violence, including two Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks on December 19, 2024, in Bassa, Shiroro LGA, which claimed several innocent lives."
In response, NAF launched a three-day air campaign, code-named "Konan Daji," aimed at degrading the terrorists’ capabilities and making the forest uninhabitable for them. Fighter jets were dispatched to execute precision airstrikes, targeting the terrorists and their logistics base.
“Upon arrival, the jets swiftly engaged identified targets with precision strikes, neutralizing numerous armed fighters and destroying their logistics hub, as confirmed by multiple secondary explosions," Akinboyewa added.
The NAF, in collaboration with ground forces, remains committed to eliminating criminal elements from Alawa Forest and surrounding areas. Sustained efforts are ongoing to restore peace and security to communities in Niger State and beyond.
