The Niger State Pension Board has announced plans to establish a dedicated call center to provide retirees with an accessible platform to voice their concerns and complaints.
This initiative was unveiled by the Director General of the board, Malam Nasir Saidu Namaska, during the flag-off ceremony for the tenth batch of cheque disbursements to beneficiaries at the board’s premises in Minna.
Speaking at the event, Namaska explained that the call center would enable retirees to contact a designated number, ensuring their issues are addressed promptly and within a specified timeframe.
The initiative aims to ease the challenges faced by retirees, especially those traveling from distant locations or dealing with health concerns.
Namaska highlighted that the former governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, recognized these challenges and directed the Pension Board’s management to implement the call center to alleviate the burden of in-person visits.
He also urged retirees to participate actively in the “Am Alive” verification exercise, emphasizing its importance for ensuring continued pension payments. Namaska warned that failure to complete the verification process could result in the suspension of monthly pensions.
The verification exercise, he explained, serves to confirm the eligibility of retirees to receive their pensions over the next six months.
For retirees unable to attend the verification exercise due to illness or those residing abroad, Namaska assured that special arrangements have been made in collaboration with the Nigerian Union of Pensioners.
The Director General commended former Governor Umaru Bago for the timely release of funds for settling retirees’ gratuities. He also reaffirmed the board’s adherence to the “first come, first served” principle in processing payments.
