Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has received the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on a condolence visit following the recent tanker explosion at Dikko Junction.
Dr. Ganduje, accompanied by members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) and other party leaders, was welcomed at the Niger State liaison office in Abuja.
The APC National Chairman expressed his sympathy to the government and people of Niger State, describing the incident as tragic and preventable. He noted that human behavior at the accident scene contributed to the loss of lives.
"Our visit is to extend our heartfelt condolences over this unfortunate incident. We pray for the repose of the departed souls, speedy recovery for the injured, and comfort for the bereaved families," Ganduje said.
Addressing security challenges in the state, Dr. Ganduje commended Governor Bago’s efforts in tackling banditry and called for sustained offensive operations to reclaim the forests that serve as hideouts for bandits. He emphasized the need for synergy between the federal and state governments to develop institutions and activities in the forests, discouraging criminal activities.
The APC National Chairman also praised the governor’s strides in infrastructure development, particularly the ongoing road projects, and wished him continued success in his administration.
In his response, Governor Umaru Bago expressed gratitude for the condolence visit, highlighting its significance. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to launching intensive advocacy campaigns to discourage people from scooping fuel from accident scenes.
Governor Bago renewed his call for the federal government to expedite the completion of the Minna-Suleja road to ease traffic congestion and enhance safety. He thanked the APC National Chairman for his encouragement and assured him of the state government’s continued loyalty and support.
