The Bauchi State Government has approved a contract worth N7.803 billion for the total renovation and reconstruction of the Bauchi State House of Assembly complex as part of its commitment to improving the working environment for lawmakers and legislative staff.

The Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Hon. Dallami Ahmad Kawule, disclosed this after the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting presided over by Governor Bala Mohammed yesterday.

According to him, the renovation project aims to bring the Assembly complex up to modern standards to enhance legislative efficiency and provide a conducive atmosphere for lawmakers and staff.

"The Council has ratified a memorandum for the renovation and reconstruction of the Bauchi State House of Assembly complex, an initiative championed by His Excellency, Governor Bala Mohammed, to create a more conducive environment for members of the Assembly and the Assembly Commission," Kawule stated.

He further outlined the key components of the project, which include renovation and reconstruction of the Assembly chamber, offices for Assembly directors, upgraded offices for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, construction of a dedicated office for the Assembly Commission among others.

Kawule assured that due process had been followed in awarding the contract, with all necessary certifications obtained. He confirmed that 50% of the project funds had already been okay for the contractor, expressing confidence that the project would be completed within 18 months.

"This is not just a minor facelift; it is a total renovation. Members will vacate the building completely, and a temporary location has been secured for Assembly sittings until the project is completed," he added.

Meanwhile, Dr. Adamu Umar Sambo, Commissioner for Health, announced that the State Executive Council had also approved over N9 billion for the rehabilitation of Bauchi Specialist Hospital to improve healthcare services and ease patient hardship.

Dr. Sambo emphasised that Governor Bala Mohammed is prioritising the health sector, ensuring that infrastructure and service delivery align with the expectations of the people.

"This investment reflects the governor’s commitment to a robust healthcare system. Our goal is to equip the hospital with modern facilities to enhance service delivery and meet the growing healthcare demands of our citizens," he stated.

While commenting, the state commissioner ministry of information, Usman Shehu, reiterated that the projects were part of Governor Bala Mohammed’s broader vision for sustainable development, improved governance, and enhanced public service delivery in Bauchi State.

"These significant allocations underscore the administration’s dedication to infrastructure, governance efficiency, and citizen welfare," Usman added.
