The First Lady of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N100 million to the victims of the recent tanker explosion in Dikko, Niger State.
Sen. Tinubu, who was accompanied by the Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima, made the donation during a private visit to the Government House, Minna, to commiserate with the state government and the people of Niger State over the tragedy and other recent disasters.
She stated that the donation was aimed at complementing the efforts of the state government in providing relief and support to the victims.
Expressing her condolences, the First Lady sympathized with the government and people of Niger State, praying that such disasters would not occur again in the country.
She also commended Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for his developmental initiatives, particularly in the agricultural sector, describing him as a leader close to the heart of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In his response, Governor Umaru Bago appreciated the visit and the generous donation, referring to the First Lady as a mother figure. He emphasized that her visit further strengthened the existing relationship between the state and the Renewed Hope agenda of the federal government.
Earlier, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, speaking on behalf of the eight emirate councils in the state, thanked the First Lady for her contributions and urged her to extend further support to the state, particularly in the agricultural sector, to complement both federal and state government efforts.
As part of her visit, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, alongside her entourage and the Wife of the Niger State Governor, Hajiya Fatima Umaru Bago, paid courtesy visits to former Nigerian leaders, Generals Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, at their uphill residences in Minna.
Describing them as patriots, the former heads of state appreciated the First Lady’s efforts, particularly in supporting orphans, women, children, youth, and the elderly.
