In a significant move to strengthen academic leadership and institutional growth, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has approved the appointment of Professor Sulaiman Mohammed Hadi of the Department of Veterinary Anatomy, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, as the new Vice Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai.

According to a press statement signed by Lawal Tanko, Information Officer, Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the appointment follows a rigorous selection process and takes effect from Monday, February 17, 2025.

The statement, issued by Alhaji Abubakar Usman, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), emphasized that Professor Hadi’s appointment was based on merit, his outstanding academic credentials, impeccable character, vast experience, and exceptional performance in the screening and selection exercise conducted by the university’s Governing Council.

“By virtue of your high-level engagements in academia, we have no doubt that you will bring your wealth of experience and administrative skills to bear in the discharge of your responsibilities,” the statement read.

The new Vice-Chancellor is expected to implement strategies that will position the university as a hub for affordable quality education, innovative research, and global academic collaboration, Alhaji Usman added.

The SSG also highlighted that the appointment reflects the present administration’s commitment to excellence in education and the overall development of Niger State. He expressed optimism that, under Professor Hadi’s leadership, IBB University, Lapai, will continue to thrive as a center of academic excellence and innovation.

The appointment is for a single term of five years.
