The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed a circulating social media claim alleging that the Federal Government and the National Assembly are considering scrapping the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS). The Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, said the Ministry categorically described the claim as false, misleading, and entirely unfounded.

For the avoidance of doubt, she stated that the Ministry has not initiated any bill before the National Assembly seeking the abolition of NBAIS, nor has it proposed, initiated, endorsed, or supported any policy aimed at scrapping the board or undermining its statutory mandate.

Boriowo expressed concern over the circulation of such unverified information, noting that it falsely suggests a government-backed move against NBAIS and is capable of causing unnecessary anxiety, misinformation, and apprehension among students, parents, educators, religious organisations, and other stakeholders.

She reiterated that NBAIS remains a duly recognised examination and certification body operating within Nigeria’s education system. The Federal Government, she added, continues to support all legally established educational institutions and examination bodies in line with extant laws, national education policy, and the principles of inclusiveness, equity, and equal opportunity.

The Ministry therefore urged members of the public to disregard the report in its entirety and refrain from spreading unverified information that could mislead citizens or undermine public confidence in government institutions.

It further encouraged stakeholders to rely solely on official communications from the Federal Ministry of Education and other authorised government channels for accurate information on education policies, programmes, and reforms.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to promoting quality education, national cohesion, and constructive engagement with all stakeholders in advancing the country’s educational objectives.
