Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has inaugurated the newly built Annoor Jumma’at Mosque at the Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi International Conference Centre, Government House, Minna.

Speaking at the event, Governor Bago described the inauguration as historic, noting that the previous location of the Government House Mosque was inconvenient for some worshippers. He explained that because the mosque was built solely to serve Allah, it should be accessible to all, prompting its relocation to a more central and inclusive space.

Governor Bago urged Muslims across the state to remain united, emphasizing that the Annoor Mosque is a government facility open to all Islamic sects—a deliberate effort to promote harmony and religious unity.

He further disclosed that similar mosques will be constructed in major towns across Niger State to ensure easier access to places of worship.

The governor also reminded citizens about the state government’s Ramadan welfare program, which includes the distribution of food items—some to be sold at 50% subsidized rates and others distributed free of charge. Committees have already been set up to oversee implementation of the initiative.

The Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Yahaya Abubakar, represented by the Emir of Agaie, Yusuf Nuhu, commended Governor Bago for his foresight in constructing the mosque, describing the gesture as commendable. He urged Muslims to continue supporting each other, especially in the spirit of Ramadan.

Director General, Bureau for Religious Affairs, Malam Umar Faruk Abdullahi, also praised the governor’s commitment to religious development, highlighting that the Annoor Mosque will serve as a platform for scholars and leaders from different sects to foster unity and enhance Islamic knowledge. The mosque will also host Ramadan Tafsir sessions, further enriching the spiritual lives of worshippers.

The Executive Secretary, Niger State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Sheikh Muhammad Awwal Aliyu, led the two-unit congregational prayers. In his sermon, he reminded worshippers of the immense blessings of Ramadan, encouraging all Muslims to seize the opportunity to seek forgiveness and draw closer to Allah.

The event attracted a host of dignitaries, including Deputy Governor Comrade Yakubu Garba, Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, Emir of Kagara Ahmed Garba Gunna Attahiru II, and Head of Service Abubakar Sadiq Idris, among others.
