Professor Titus Ketkukah, the current Commissioner for Works and Transport in Bauchi State, serves under the leadership of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed. Before his appointment, he was a lecturer at the University of Jos, where he held various academic positions, including Head of Department (HOD), Deputy Dean, and Professor of Structural Engineering.
In this exclusive phone interview with Daily Struggle Newspaper, Professor Ketkukah shares insights into Governor Bala Mohammed's developmental strides, engineering practices in Nigeria, his relationship with ministry staff, and his appreciation to the governor for the opportunity to serve.
Daily Struggle: What can you say about Governor Bala Mohammed's achievements so far?
Prof. Ketkukah: The governor has made remarkable progress in infrastructure development, fostering sustainable economic growth and prosperity across Bauchi State. Recently, I embarked on an inspection tour across the state to assess ongoing road construction projects in Bogoro, Tafawa Balewa, Dass, and Toro Local Government Areas. Some of the key projects include the 29km Boi–Gambar Lere road, the 22km Rimin Zayam–Polchi road, and the 40.2km Gel Jaule–Lame road, all of which are currently under construction. I was impressed with the quality and pace of the work and requested quality control test results, including density tests, concrete cube tests, and California Bearing Ratio (CBR) tests. I commend Governor Bala Mohammed for initiating these projects, as they will significantly stimulate economic growth and development in the affected communities.
Additionally, I appreciate the host communities for their cooperation. Once completed, these roads will boost economic activities not just within Bauchi State but also beyond. During my visit, the Village Head of Jaule in Lame District expressed immense satisfaction with the progress of the work and extended his gratitude to the governor for the initiative.
Daily Struggle: How would you describe your relationship with Governor Bala Mohammed?
Prof. Ketkukah: My relationship with the governor is very cordial. I also have a great working relationship with my ministry staff. We appreciate God for everything.
Daily Struggle: What is your assessment of engineering practices in Nigeria?
Prof. Ketkukah: Nigerian engineers are highly skilled and up-to-date in terms of expertise. They are committed to ensuring global best practices and adhering to internationally acceptable standards.
Daily Struggle: What are your thoughts on Governor Bala Mohammed’s potential presidential ambition in 2027?
Prof. Ketkukah: I am 100% hopeful that, by God’s grace, he will become the next President of Nigeria in 2027.
