On Tuesday, following the plenary session, Rt. Hon. Kwamoti B. Laori, Chairman of the House Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa and representative of the Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency, warmly received Senior Political Officers from the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria. The delegation included Sophia M. Skupien and Cassandra Carraway, who oversee ECOWAS and External Relations.

The visit aimed to foster dialogue on the Committee’s activities and explore potential areas of collaboration and mutual interest between Nigeria and the United States.

Discussions centred on U.S.-Nigeria relations, particularly in light of Nigeria’s critical role as a leading member of ECOWAS and the African Union—both within the Committee’s purview. Key topics included security cooperation, economic growth, humanitarian responses, and the promotion of democracy and human rights, all of which are pivotal to shaping the foreign policies of both nations.

Rep. Kwamoti outlined the legislative agenda of the 10th House of Representatives, led by Rt. Hon. Dr. Tajudeen Abbas (GCON), and emphasized his Committee’s Strategic Plan. He highlighted ongoing collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ECOWAS Commission, and the African Union to strengthen regional integration and diplomatic ties.

The U.S. officials commended Rep. Kwamoti for his deep understanding of U.S. political dynamics and his effective representation of Nigeria’s national interests as a senior parliamentary member.

Additionally, Rep. Kwamoti lauded His Excellency Ahmed Bola Tinubu (GCFR), President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Chairman of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, for his exemplary leadership in navigating Nigeria’s foreign policy, particularly in response to the recent withdrawals of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger from ECOWAS.

The visit concluded with the presentation of symbolic gifts to the U.S. envoys, marking a gesture of strengthened diplomatic ties between the two nations.
