Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to establish police institutions in Adamawa, similar to those in other northeastern states, to enhance security and law enforcement.

The governor made this appeal during a courtesy visit by the IGP to the Government House in Yola, where he stressed the need for a Police Mobile Base and a Counter-Terrorism Unit in Madagali Local Government Area to strengthen the fight against Boko Haram insurgency.

Expressing gratitude for the IGP’s second visit to the state, Governor Fintiri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the police through logistical and financial assistance to ensure peace and stability in Adamawa and across Nigeria.

In response, IGP Kayode Egbetokun acknowledged the unwavering support of the Adamawa State government and its people for the police force. He described the state as home to many police personnel and highlighted the successes recorded through collaboration with the military.

The IGP further emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships for improved security, assuring that his leadership would focus on capacity building, equipping officers with essential skills, and prioritizing community engagement to enhance safety across the country.

IGP Commissions New Police Headquarters in Adamawa

In a separate development, IGP Egbetokun commissioned the new Ultra-Modern Police Headquarters Complex at the Adamawa State Police Command in Yola on Thursday.

Speaking at the ceremony, the IGP emphasized that the project is part of ongoing police reforms aimed at improving professionalism in the Nigeria Police Force. He stated that the initiative aligns with his administration’s commitment to fostering a robust and well-equipped policing system by prioritizing the welfare of officers.

"This structure represents more than just a physical edifice; it is a testament to our unwavering dedication to improving police welfare, service delivery, and professionalism. My administration is working tirelessly to replicate such modern facilities across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory," Egbetokun stated.

In his remarks, Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, praised the IGP’s commitment to the welfare and operational capacity of officers. He noted that the provision of modern facilities has significantly enhanced police operations, leading to a decline in criminal activities within the state.

"The impact of these efforts is evident in the drastic reduction of crime in Adamawa. The support from the IGP has strengthened our operations, making it easier to combat criminal activities effectively," he emphasised.
