The Bauchi State Government acknowledges the decision of the Bauchi Emirate Council’s Committee on Sallah Durbar to postpone this year’s much-anticipated Durbar Festival. However, it is important to clarify that this decision was made internally by the Emirate Council without prior consultation with the state government.
The Sallah Durbar Festival has long been a pillar of Bauchi’s rich cultural heritage, bringing together residents, visitors, and tourists from across Nigeria and beyond. It serves as a symbol of unity, history, and identity, fostering communal pride while contributing to the state’s social and economic vibrancy. Recognizing its significance, the Bauchi State Government had made extensive security and logistical arrangements to ensure a smooth and successful celebration.
However, out of deep respect for the traditional institution and its leadership, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has reluctantly approved the Emirate Council’s request for postponement. While the government regrets the lack of prior engagement on such a major decision, it remains committed to working harmoniously with the Emirate to uphold and preserve Bauchi’s cherished traditions.
The state government deeply regrets any inconvenience this last-minute postponement may have caused to the peace-loving residents of Bauchi and the esteemed guests who had planned to attend the grand event. Moving forward, the government will take necessary steps to prevent abrupt changes of this nature, particularly in matters of cultural significance that impact the people and the state’s image.
Despite this development, Governor Mohammed extends his heartfelt Sallah greetings to His Royal Highness, the Emir of Bauchi, the Bauchi Emirate Council, and the entire people of Bauchi State. The government wishes all residents a joyous and peaceful Sallah celebration in advance.
