At least 40,000 families in Borno State are set to benefit from the Aliko Dangote Foods Intervention Programme, aimed at easing economic hardship.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Maiduguri on Wednesday, Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, lauded the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) for donating 40,000 bags of 10kg rice to residents. He noted that the initiative would provide much-needed relief, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
Represented by the Director General of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr. Ali Abdullahi Isa, the governor described the donation as a crucial step in alleviating suffering.
"This generous contribution underscores the foundation's dedication to supporting vulnerable communities and promoting social welfare," he stated. "We are deeply grateful to Alhaji Aliko Dangote and the entire foundation for their kindness and philanthropy."
The Aliko Dangote Foundation recently launched a nationwide food intervention program, distributing one million bags of rice worth N16 billion across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
Mr. Usman Muhammad, a representative of the foundation, reaffirmed that the initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to improve citizens' living conditions. He emphasized that the distribution specifically targets the poor and vulnerable.
Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the support. Aisha Modu, 50, a displaced person, said the rice donation would significantly ease her economic burden. Similarly, Umaru Aliyu, 60, stated that he would use the rice to feed his six children, while praying for continued blessings on Alhaji Aliko Dangote.
The governor urged residents to keep praying for peace, stability, and prosperity in Borno State and Nigeria as a whole.
