*Declares Last Saturday of Every Month as Environmental Sanitation Day
By Awwal Umar Kontagora
Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has approved the Niger State Environmental Sanitation and Waste Control Regulations 2025.
The new regulations, without prejudice to any existing laws, will govern matters related to environmental sanitation and waste management across all categories in Niger State.
Under these regulations, every individual, property, or vehicle—whether in motion or stationary—will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of its surroundings.
As part of this initiative, Governor Bago has declared the last Saturday of every month as Environmental Sanitation Day. This decision is in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 5 (1) (2) of the Niger State Environmental Protection Agency Law, 2022 (as amended).
In line with this policy, movement of persons and vehicles will be restricted from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM on every Environmental Sanitation Day. During these hours, individuals and property owners must ensure thorough cleaning of their premises and proper waste disposal.
This initiative aims to promote a cleaner and healthier environment across Niger State.
