The Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, has commissioned a Multi-Nutrient Moor Lick Factory in Zaria, describing it as a groundbreaking animal nutritional supplement set to revolutionize livestock farming in Nigeria.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Maiha emphasized that the livestock sector is not only an economic pillar but also a lifeline for millions of Nigerians. However, the industry faces major challenges such as value chain inefficiencies, feed shortages, disease outbreaks, and climate change.

The Minister noted that the new Moor Lick supplement is an innovative scientific solution to nutritional deficiencies in livestock.

“By providing essential minerals and nutrients, this supplement will enhance animal health, improve productivity, and ultimately increase farmers' income,” he stated.

Maiha further warned that deficiencies in trace elements can negatively impact animal health and immunity.

“As we launch this product, let us remember that its success depends on collaboration. I urge livestock farmers and breeders to embrace this innovation to grow their businesses,” he said.

He also encouraged private sector investments in the livestock value chain, stressing the need for accessibility and affordability of such vital products across Nigeria.

“With products like Moor Lick, Nigeria can address nutritional gaps, ensure food security, drive economic growth, and reduce poverty,” he added.

In his remarks, the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, commended Dr. Alimi Bello, the founder of Medhal Nigeria Ltd, for his bold initiative in establishing the factory, the first of its kind in Africa.

The Emir pledged his full support for the company’s mission and encouraged stakeholders to patronize Moor Lick products to boost livestock farming.

He also shared his personal interest in livestock farming, describing it as his lifelong dream.

Earlier, the Managing Director of Medhal Nigeria Ltd, Dr. Abdul Alimi Bello, expressed gratitude to the Emir of Zazzau for his unwavering support.

He also appreciated the Minister of Livestock Development for his commitment to advancing the livestock industry in Nigeria.

Dr. Bello revealed that Medhal Nigeria Ltd has sponsored undergraduate and postgraduate students at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, as part of its contributions to livestock education and research.
