The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, has pledged to enhance facilities at the Depot Nigerian Army (NA) to improve training and enable the institution to fulfill its mandate effectively.

In a statement issued to journalists in Zaria, Major Everest Ochienta, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Depot NA, said the minister made this commitment during an assessment visit to the Depot Nigerian Army at Chindit Cantonment, Zaria, Kaduna State.

He assured that the Ministry of Defence would leave no stone unturned in upgrading Chindit Primary School to modern standards as a morale booster for officers and soldiers stationed at the cantonment.

The minister further stated that the ministry would collaborate with the Kaduna State Government to ensure the swift completion of the school's abandoned project.

Similarly, he pledged to drill additional solar-powered boreholes to complement the existing water supply infrastructure within the Depot NA, addressing the challenges of water scarcity in the cantonment.

Earlier, the Commandant of Depot NA, Major General Ahmadu Mohammed, briefed the minister on the ongoing training activities of the 88 Regular Recruits Intake.

While appreciating the minister’s visit, Major General Mohammed highlighted the interventions of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, aimed at addressing the challenges facing the Depot NA.

He expressed optimism that these collaborative efforts would strengthen the institution’s capacity to produce high-quality recruits for the Armed Forces.

The commandant also outlined key achievements under his leadership despite prevailing challenges and reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare of both staff and recruits to ensure the institution meets Nigeria’s security aspirations.
