The Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), H.E. Silas Agara, has assured Nigerian youths, particularly those undergoing training under the Renewed Hope Initiative, that their allowances will be disbursed by the end of this month.
Agara made this announcement on Tuesday during a meeting with representatives of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) at the NDE headquarters in Abuja.
The NDE has been attracting the attention of international donors eager to support its mandate. The IOM, recognizing the agency’s effective leadership and innovative strategies under Agara, has expressed interest in collaborating with the NDE.
Outlining his action plan, which aligns with the IOM’s vision, Agara highlighted the NDE’s recent achievements in securing international support. He noted partnerships with organizations such as MECA and the International Labour Organization (ILO), enabling the NDE to incorporate globally recognized training modules into its ad-hoc programs.
“We have adopted best practices to assist Nigerians, particularly those facing hardships in Northeast Nigeria,” Agara stated. “We are working with Operation Safe Corridor to rehabilitate former insurgents and are enhancing training modules in Gombe State to meet international standards.”
Additionally, the NDE is collaborating with the Niger Delta Commission to leverage its expertise in youth empowerment. These efforts include providing training opportunities for young people, particularly members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Agara stressed the importance of skill acquisition, urging young Nigerians to move beyond the expectation of traditional white-collar jobs.
He also announced that the NDE had recently completed a three-month training program under the Renewed Hope Initiative, with allowances for participants expected to be disbursed by the end of this month. Furthermore, he revealed that applications for the next recruitment cycle would open in May.
The head of the IOM’s Nigeria office reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to humane and orderly migration. He emphasized that the partnership with the NDE is crucial in addressing the needs of internally displaced persons and ensuring that migration remains a choice rather than a necessity.
