The Kano State Government has announced plans to tap water from Tiga Dam to provide a sustainable and uninterrupted water supply to Rano Town, which has struggled with water shortages for decades.

Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf disclosed this while receiving the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Isa Umar, at the Government House in Kano on Thursday during a Sallah homage visit.

According to a press release issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, Governor Yusuf has instructed the Ministry of Water Resources to take immediate action on the project.

“We want to inform you that on the issue of water supply, we have made significant progress. I have directed the Commissioner of Water Resources to engage experts to tap water from Tiga Dam to supply Rano Town,” the governor stated.

In addition to sourcing water from the dam, the governor revealed that arrangements are in place to construct boreholes in collaboration with the local government, despite the challenging rocky terrain in the area.

“We will use advanced surveying techniques to detect water aquifers beneath the rocky terrain and ensure a steady supply of water,” he assured.

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s broader commitment to improving key sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, environmental development, education, and youth and women empowerment.

During the visit, the governor also extended his condolences to the Emir over the tragic killing of Kano indigenes in Uromi, Edo State. He praised the Emir’s role in maintaining peace and reassuring affected families.

“Had it not been for the wise intervention of the Emir, only God knows what could have happened,” the governor remarked.

In his response, the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Isa Umar, expressed gratitude for the government’s ongoing developmental projects in the emirate and urged continued efforts to resolve the water supply issue.

“We appreciate your efforts in education, healthcare, agriculture, security, and the timely payment of retirees’ gratuities,” the Emir stated.

He also lauded the governor for addressing complaints about the five-kilometer road project in the area, which led to the replacement of the contractor.

“We are pleased to inform you that the project is now making significant progress,” the Emir added.

The Sallah homage, known as Hawan Nasarawa, was marked by colorful traditional performances, including the famous guitar entertainers of the Rano Emirate, who captivated the audience with their artistic displays.
