The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed a supermarket in Maitama, Abuja, for selling and distributing banned, unregistered, and counterfeit regulated products.
Operatives from the agency had earlier visited the supermarket, where they discovered several banned and unregistered items. The supermarket's management was subsequently invited to NAFDAC’s office for further investigation but failed to appear.
In a statement posted on its official X handle on Saturday, April 26, NAFDAC said the supermarket’s refusal to cooperate prompted a follow-up operation by an enforcement team, during which officers also faced obstruction from the supermarket staff.
"NAFDAC has sealed a supermarket located in Maitama, Abuja, for the sale and distribution of banned, unregistered, and counterfeit regulated products," the statement said. "The supermarket also obstructed NAFDAC officers during the enforcement of regulatory actions."
Items seized during the operation included unregistered pet food, banned imported soaps, and counterfeit or re-bagged rice, among other prohibited goods.
NAFDAC reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health and warned that regulatory violations would not be tolerated.
