*Signs of Fubara’s Return Emerge
By Amos Joseph
High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has declared his firm support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to complete two constitutional terms in office, totalling eight years, before the election of a new leader in 2031.
Speaking in an interview with Arise Television, the Ibe-Ebidouwei of the Ijaw Nation and Grand Patron of the PBAT Door-2-Door Movement 2027, described President Tinubu as an experienced and capable leader, fully equipped to steer Nigeria toward greater development.
“Tinubu is a good person. He has the experience to do everything and carry this country to a higher level,” Tompolo stated.
He emphasised that Tinubu’s mandate must be respected, likening his tenure to that of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who served two complete terms from 2015 to 2023.
“We do not want anybody to cause problems. He should be allowed to complete his two constitutional terms, then we will vote for another person to take over in 2031,” he added.
Tompolo further disclosed plans to embark on a nationwide mobilisation campaign, including outreach across northern Nigeria, to rally broader support for President Tinubu’s re-election.
“We will do our part, even go out of our boundary to the northern part of Nigeria to talk to our brothers and compatriots so that he will get a second tenure,” he said.
He noted that traditional rulers across various regions had already expressed their support for Tinubu’s second-term bid, adding that the growing consensus among key stakeholders would ensure the continuity of the current administration.
Addressing concerns about potential unrest, Tompolo dismissed claims that any group could monopolise violence, stressing the need for unity and broad-based support for the Tinubu administration.
“We are appealing to everybody, and by the grace of God, everybody will support us,” he affirmed.
Turning to the political situation in Rivers State, Tompolo expressed confidence in resolving the rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. He characterised their relationship as one between a subordinate and a superior, and predicted an imminent dispute settlement.
“The duly elected governor of Rivers State is coming back,” he declared, signalling Governor Fubara’s political resurgence.
Tompolo also revealed plans to travel to Abuja for discussions with President Tinubu and former Governor Wike as part of broader efforts to stabilise the political environment in Rivers State.
“Our president is someone who has been protecting democracy for a very long time. There is no way he will truncate it,” he stressed, reiterating Tinubu’s commitment to democratic principles.
