In a decisive operation to combat rising insecurity, the Bauchi State Vigilante and Youth Empowerment Agency has recovered over 1,000 stolen cows during raids on suspected bandit hideouts in Sabon-Gida and Mansur villages, near the Gambo Deru border with Taraba State.

Led by the Commander-General of the agency, Ambassador Umar Aliyu Shayi, the agency collaborated with conventional security forces including the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Army, Civil Defence Corps, and other stakeholders to dismantle kidnapping and cattle-rustling networks in the affected areas.

Ambassador Shayi confirmed the recovery while addressing journalists in Bauchi, stating that the operation marks a critical step in the state’s continued effort to restore peace and security in rural communities.

He also paid tribute to two fallen officers—Masa’udu Baka from Alkaleri Local Government Area and Sha’aban Abdullahi—who lost their lives during the operation. “We pray Allah grants them mercy and forgives their shortcomings. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” Shayi said.

Highlighting the state's resolve, Dr. Shayi assured that the Bala Mohammed administration is fully committed to eradicating criminal elements and restoring lasting peace. “The establishment of a Joint Security Force is a demonstration of our absolute dedication to ensuring the safety of lives and property,” he stressed.

The operation, he said, is part of an expanded security strategy across Bauchi, involving close collaboration with community leaders, traditional institutions, and religious figures.

In support of the effort, the Executive Chairman of Alkaleri Local Government Council, Hon. Garba Hassan Bajama, emphasized the importance of communal involvement in security efforts. “Security is everyone’s business. We all have a role to play,” he said, calling on residents of Gwana District to cooperate with ongoing operations.

Also lending his voice, the District Head of Gwana and Sardaunan Bauchi, Alhaji Ahmed Sani Adamu Jumba, praised Governor Bala Mohammed’s proactive approach to tackling insecurity. He described the recent criminal activity in the region as “a sabotage to the development agenda of Bauchi State,” pledging the full support of his domain in achieving government goals.

The success of the joint operation marks a significant milestone in the fight against banditry in Bauchi and is expected to boost public confidence in the state's security architecture.
