The Minister of State for Defence and former Governor of Zamfara State, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawallen Maradun, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic murder of the Chief Imam of Maru Juma’at Mosque, Alkali Salihu Suleiman, who was killed alongside two of his children by armed bandits after being abducted two months ago.

In a statement signed by the APC Publicity Secretary of Zamfara State, Yusuf Idris Gusau, the Minister described the incident as a disturbing escalation of violence, lamenting that religious leaders are now being targeted in the wave of banditry ravaging the region.

Matawalle prayed for Allah to grant the victims shahada and give the bereaved family and the people of Maru the strength to bear the painful loss. He assured that the Ministry of Defence, under his watch, would continue deploying personnel to the state to combat and eliminate criminal elements.

“As APC leader in Zamfara and Minister of State for Defence, I assure the people that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government is determined to end banditry. The federal government has already provided all the needed equipment to security forces, and peace will soon be restored,” Matawalle said.

The Minister also urged citizens to support security agencies with reliable intelligence, stressing that achieving lasting peace requires collective effort, regardless of political or religious differences.

Represented by the APC State Secretary, Hon. Ibrahim Umar Dangaladima, Matawalle’s delegation paid a condolence visit to the bereaved family and the Emir of Maru, Alhaji Abubakar Gado Maigari. During the visit, the Minister donated N5 million, ten bags of rice, ten cartons of spaghetti, and ten cartons of macaroni to the family.

The Emir expressed gratitude for the Minister’s unwavering concern for the people of Zamfara and prayed for his continued protection and success.

The delegation included senior APC figures and former government officials, such as Hon. Bashir Madaro Walin Kurya, Hon. Abdulrahman Bala Shinkafi, Hajiya Afiyatu Suleiman, Hon. Lawali Abubakar Zannah, and several others, showing the party's solidarity with the grieving community.
